Treatment for depressive and mood-related conditions.
For adults experiencing depression, persistent low mood, or the kind of high-functioning presentation that goes unaddressed because it does not appear severe from the outside.
Depressive presentations vary considerably. They include classical episodes of major depression, persistent low-grade depressive symptoms (dysthymia), and presentations where functioning is broadly preserved but the experience of life has lost its meaning, energy or colour. All respond to evidence-based psychological treatment, individualised to the presentation.
Presentations commonly treated
- Major depressive episodes
- Persistent depressive symptoms (dysthymia)
- High-functioning depression
- Depression following loss, change or burnout
- Low mood co-occurring with anxiety
How the work is structured
Treatment typically combines three components, sequenced and weighted to your situation. Behavioural activation: gradual, deliberate re-engagement with activities that have stopped feeling worthwhile. Cognitive work: identifying and modifying the depressive thought patterns that maintain low mood. Values clarification: re-establishing what the next chapter of your life is oriented toward. Most clients notice change between sessions 6 and 12.
Coordinating with your GP or psychiatrist
Where medication is part of the treatment plan, psychological therapy is delivered alongside it. With your consent, I can coordinate with your GP or psychiatrist to ensure the two treatment modalities are aligned.
